FB has been a perfect trading stock for me this year. I've held onto share since 2014 and sold my position at the beginning of this year around $185 (first red arrow, around 2/18).
Shortly after my initial sell, shares of FB went down to ~$150 due to the Cambridge Analytica data breach. Seeing oversold conditions I went long the 8/17/2018 $170 Calls (first green arrow around 4/18). I ended up selling on 5/31 (2nd red arrow) for a total gain of 89.39%.
Right after closing the position, seeing a double top, I decided to go long the 7/20/18 $190 Puts the next day and sold two days later for a total gain of 72.38%. (2nd down arrow).
A few days later, seeing FB hold up well, I decided to go long the 9/21/18 $190 calls (2nd green arrow). I rode this train up until 7/24/18, and trimmed the position for 70.92% gain.
I decided to play earnings by keeping some of my long position, and hedging via puts.
On 7/24/2018, I went long the 9/21/18 $200 Puts. To my surprise FB went down on earnings by +20%. In the morning, seeing my substantial gain, I closed the puts position for a total gain of 523.73%! Best trade I've ever made.
Needless to say, it's been an amazing year so far, just with this stock alone.
I will likely use my puts gains to go long calls once this sell-off finds a floor. I will post my next long or short FB trade.
Just thought I'd share, thanks for reading. Feel free to share your best (or worst) trades this year.
Cheers!
