Color Capital co-founder Chris Cantino said on social media that one thing is certain about the future of NFT, and that is the status of generative and algorithmic art in art history. In a century defined by exponential technological processes and the birth of the computer, now spearheaded by the emergence of artificial intelligence, historians must and will acknowledge the pioneers of new media generated by code and computer assistance. Art history does not simply ignore entire movements and technological achievements, but celebrates and records them in detail so that future generations can enjoy and learn from them. Likewise, I believe that digital works of art will be celebrated by our descendants for hundreds if not thousands of years, supported by new patronage and provenance models enabled by NFTs. Whether future societies call them NFTs, whether blockchain technology sees mass adoption, or whether generative works of art permeate pop culture as a whole remains to be seen. But one thing is for sure, as long as human civilization values culture and history, the movement's seminal artwork will be recognized.
