If you're entering the metaverse you'll need some metacash in your metawallet to buy some metastuff. This online virtual universe is being supercharged by crypto and blockchains, which are expanding it rapidly as increasing numbers of users and corporations rush to get involved in what many believe will be the future of digital interaction. Naysayers will be pointed to the mass adoption of cell phones in the 90s, the smartphone-fuelled explosion in social media in the late 2000s, and the mainstream adoption of video calling in the late 2010s and early 2020s as examples of how quickly the digital social environment can change. But what's the currency of this blockchain-based world? What cryptos are monetizing the metaverse, letting users play to earn and buy virtual real estate? There's a lot of choice out there in the early days.
