US Markets Net New Highs/Lows

This indicator displays the net number of stocks on the Nasdaq Composite making 52-week highs or lows. For instance, if there are 60 new 52-week highs and 20 new 52-week lows, the net number will display 40 net new 52 week highs.

This indicator is particularly useful in gauging what the breadth is of the Nasdaq.
Three days of net 52-week highs show a healthy market which is conducive to increasing exposure. This condition is highlighted with a green background.
Three days of net 52-week lows show an unhealthy market which is conducive to reducing exposure. This condition is highlighted with a red background.

Updated so that background highlights do not back adjust the background highlight when 3 consecutive days of net new highs or net new lows are achieved. This provides a more realistic view of real-time application when studying past charts.

You now have the ability to select which US markets you would like to include in the calculations. You can see Net high/lows for either the Nasdaq, NYSE, or AMEX. You can also see the total of any combination of net highs/lows of those indexes.

Simply select which indexes you would like to include on the inputs page.

The latest version has the option to see the number of stocks making new 52-week highs and new 52-week lows separately. This helps the user to better understand what dynamic is driving the net number.

The latest version adds the option to select the Nasdaq 100 and S&P 500 indexes for analysis in addition to the existing exchange options.

It also includes the option to show a dot above or below the columns if a threshold of new highs or new lows is reached. This helps to identify conditions where markets may be weakening or strengthening subtly.

Strong bull markets typically have three conditions: 1)Net highs, 2)50 or more stocks making new highs, and 3)very few stocks making New Lows. These dots can now help users to simply visualize all three conditions at once.

If a market with NET 52-week highs but suddenly has more than 50 stocks making NEW 52-week lows, there may be weakness developing. This can serve as an early warning of an impending trend change.

The latest version now allows for:

• Viewing data in percentages
  
• Options to add or remove minimum threshold dots
  

Investors can now more easily compare data over long periods as percentage data normalizes the results for fluctuations in the number of listed stocks.
